Fine Pickings was created to fill the short comings of the Australian tea market. While there are plenty of good tea stores around Australia and online we felt there was something missing.

Where were all the exciting and high quality tea’s we have tasted through out our travels? We had found plenty of our favourites for sale through out Australia but we were met with disappointment when we actually tasted these – they were called the same but definitely were not.

Over the last few years we have been spoilt as we have been in the planning stages of Fine Pickings we were travelling, meeting and selecting our suppliers and farmers from around the world. During this time we have sampled nearly 1000 cups of tea and we are looking forward to the next 1000.

We have now reached a point where we have excellent network of suppliers, buyers and farmers across the world.

Over our tasting sessions we have found good tea is like a fine wine – some years certain regions will produce excellent teas other years not so much as they can be affected by weather and other circumstances. This means every tea every year will taste different even if from the same garden.

To overcome this we came up with the idea of a small batch tea company with an ever changing menu of top quality teas. Each tea will be marked with a batch number and once that batch is gone that particular flavour is gone with it. We plan not to stock specific teas rather specific regions or countries such as Japan, Darjeeling, Assam, South Korea, China and Taiwan.

Therefore if you like a particular batch it’s best to quickly get in and grab some more before it’s gone. 

We find this will give us a much broader choice of teas on our search for the best cup.
